Mubarak addressing people... again!

The mystery behind Friday’s violence was revealed by Mubarak’s speech yesterday. Yes, you read it right. I am speaking about Mubarak, the former president of Egypt. He made a speech through the Saudi Alarabiya TV to the Egyptian people yesterday. He did not speak much politics although he used the same phrases he used to say during his time as a dictator, like “Brothers and sisters…, I have decided…, Allahul Mwafik…, etc.” He was only responding to charges of corruptions filed against him by Egyptian Public Persecutor. It was completely insane, not only to see Mubarak addressing the people again, but to also to see him refuting those charges and vowing to sue those who are targeting tarnishing his image! I wonder if he really believes that his image was positive and we are now tarnishing it by asking him to clear his financial situation to the people and get subjected to fair trial.

For me, this speech was more than just an attempt to clarify one’s situation or refuting charges. This speech has so many implications. On one hand, it shows us how the Saudi King is trying hard not to get Mubarak investigated. Alarabiya is a Saudi TV and it is not a secret that the Saudi King has always supported Mubarak since he stepped down. The same Saudi support was also given to Ben Ali, the falling dictator of Tunisia.

Of course, the Saudi King is not doing so to preserve the bond of brotherhood between himself and the Arab dictators. Also, it does not make sense to say that he is putting himself under this major risk only to avoid having a similar scenario in his country. If he really wants to avoid being thrown away of the throne by his people, he should avoid supporting falling dictators. In my view, the real reason that Saudi King is supporting the falling dictators and particularly trying to save Mubarak from being investigated could be related to his unclean past relationships with Mubarak. I think there are some hidden files that may harm the Saudi Kind if they got revealed through Mubarak’s trial. Actually, by doing so the Saudi King is accelerating Mubarak’s trial and his own removal from power. Now the Saudi King is making of himself an enemy not only to the Saudi opposition but also to all the free people in the region.

Anyway, let me try to explain to you why I am linking Mubarak’s speech to the violence in Tahrir Square on Friday night. I believe that Mubarak and his gang are trying, since he stepped down, to take revenge from the army and the people all together. Mubarak’s removal was not the pure work of the people alone. If it was not for the military support, we were never going to succeed in overthrowing Mubarak. Of course, when I am speaking about military support, I mean that they preferred to stay nonviolent towards the nonviolent people and to listen to Mubarak’s orders and shoot them. Keeping this in mind, Mubarak now feels betrayed by “his own men” in the Armed Forces. He even felt himself in a worse situation when he received a notification to appear before the Public Prosecutor for investigation. So, he decided to punish the army and incite people against it to destroy this relationship between the people and the army, then gets in the middle and turns the table on us. Mubarak is again playing his most favorite “divide and conquer” game. He has been firmly ruling the country using this strategy for so long. Mubarak now is trying to defend himself no matter what it takes. There is a lot of things much more valuable than the stolen money that he and his supportive dictators in the region does not want to be revealed in case he appeared for trial.

The Military High Council should be smart enough to understand this and accordingly go arrest Mubarak and all the members of his gang before it is too late. Every day, even every moment, they are out our revolution is under threat.
